St. John's to host Twelfth Night ecumenical event

MONROE - The Music Ministry of St. John's church will host the annual Twelfth Night/Epiphany Ecumenical Celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9 in its sanctuary.

The event will feature nine area choirs: Union Presbyterian Church, Monroe; Zwingli UCC, Monticello; United Methodist Church, Albany; United Methodist Church, Monroe; Zion United Methodist Church, Juda; Grace Lutheran Church, Monroe; Washington Reformation UCC, Monticello; Congregational UCC, Brodhead; and St. John's UCC, Monroe; The Circle of Friends; Monroe Swiss Singers; and Monroe Brass Quintet.

Each group will share an anthem it prepared for the Advent/Christmas season, interspersed with the congregational singing of familiar Christmas carols. As a finale, all the choirs will join in the singing of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah, accompanied by the Monroe Brass Quintet and organist Julie Shipe McClain of Jordan Lutheran Church, Browntown. Deborah Krauss Smith, director of music and organist at St. John's, is serving as coordinator and main organist for the event.

The hour-long musical celebration is open to the public. There is no admission charge, but a free-will offering will be accepted. St. John's is handicapped-accessible, with a covered drive-up/drop-off area on the east side of the sanctuary.
