MONROE - Children and adults of all ages who want to be part of the story of Jesus' birth will have the opportunity to participate when they attend the Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1724 14th St.
The presentation is part of the church's Faith Zone Sunday School program with the entire service focusing on the family, according to Kay Carter-Heath, director of Christian Education at the church.
There are no lines to learn or rehearsals to attend.
There will be parts for everyone, from preschoolers to adults. The story will be centered around the story of Jesus' birth.
At a specific time in the service, those interested in participating in the drama will be invited to the front of the church to hear the story of Jesus' birth and then recreate the scene complete with a stable and manger.
The short scripted play was adapted for use by Gary Neuenschwander. Neuenschwander and Jill Leuzinger will serve as narrators for the program.
The 5 p.m. service will also feature the combined children's and junior choirs singing a German carol entitled "Oh, How Softly the Snow." The choir is directed by Deborah Krauss Smith.
Two additional services, at 7 and 9 p.m., are also planned for Dec. 24.
The 7 p.m. traditional candlelight service will feature scripture and carols and include singing one verse of "Silent Night" in German. Special music will be provided by Circle of Friends who will sing "O Holy Night" and "Rose of Bethlehem." Members of Circle of Friends are Krauss Smith, Deb Krattiger and Pam Wyss. Brenda Payne serves as accompanist.
The 9 p.m. traditional candlelight service will include special music by the Bells of Praise handbell choir, Sanctuary Choir and Alvin Goepfer singing "O Holy Night" and David Babler singing "When a Child is Born." The congregation will join in singing "Silent Night" including one verse in German.
