MONROE - St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 2810 Sixth Street, Monroe, announces a series of worship services slated for Holy Week and Easter. All are invited to attend these services as they unfold during this especially devotional time of the church year.
On Palm Sunday, April 5, Holy Eucharist will be celebrated with traditional palms at 10:30 a.m. Sunday School meets at 9:45 a.m.
Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. April 9 focuses on the events of The Last Supper in which Jesus and His disciples meet in the Upper Room at Passover, just before Jesus' betrayal in the Garden of Gethsemane. The service includes Holy Eucharist and then, in semi-darkness, the stripping of the altar in preparation of Good Friday.
Service at 1 p.m. on Good Friday, April 10, will include the Good Friday Liturgy from the Book of Common Prayer, including the reading of the Passion Gospel and the Solemn Collects. The church is open for private devotional prayer until 3 p.m.
Easter Sunday, April 12, begins with an informal light breakfast fare, including traditional hot-cross buns between 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Holy Easter Eucharist, with special music and the flowering of the cross, begins at 10:30 a.m.
