Spring migration bird walks begin April 2

FREEPORT - The Northwest Illinois Audubon Society is sponsoring the spring migration bird walks that are open to the public. The walks begin at 8 a.m. and end at 11 a.m., followed by an optional early lunch at a local restaurant.

Mary Blackmore will lead a walk in the wetland areas of eastern Stephenson County on Wednesday, April 2. A carpool will leave at 8 a.m. from the east end of the Staples parking lot on Highway 26, Freeport. For more information, contact Mary Blackmore at 815-938-3204.

Keith Blackmore will lead a walk on the Ducks Misery swamp and the southern Jane Addams rail in Stephenson County on Wednesday, April 9. A carpool will leave at 7:45 a.m. from the east end of the Staples parking lot. For more information, contact Keith Blackmore at 815-938-3204.

Keith Blackmore will lead a walk on Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Park, north of Lena, on Friday, April 18. Those who participate at the walk can meet at the parking lot at the dam. Somer Bozovsky will lead a walk on the northern Jane Addams Trail and the Orangeville Wetlands on Thursday, April 24. Those who participate in the walk can meet at the trailhead at Orangeville, just east of the BP gas station. A carpool will leave at 7:30 a.m. from the east end of the Staples parking lot. Anne Straight will lead a walk on Newell Tract on the Oakdale Nature Preserve, Freeport, on Wednesday, April 30. Those who attend can meet in the parking lot of the Newell Tract, the part of Oakdale on the west side of Crane's Grove Road. For more information, contact Straight at 815-938-3263.
