DARLINGTON - Recent research shows that female athletes are more prone to injuries due to their body make up, and because of this the Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County Physical Therapy department wanted to expand their education to students after seeing many young female athletes with sports injuries.

They are now sponsoring a new Sports Training and Injury Prevention Program to be held in early June.

This program is open to any female athlete grades seven to 12 from any school district and will prepare them for upcoming competitive sports.

A pre-test of upper and lower extremity strength, balance, agility and jumping ability will be held today. On June 16 and 18, students will be instructed on the proper form and technique they will need to perform the training program they will complete at home over the next five weeks. Athletes will be given thorough written instructions and photos of how to perform the program.

For follow-up, Monday, August 2, a post test will be performed to determine the athlete's improvements. All sessions are held from 9 to 11:15 a.m. at the Darlington High School gymnasium.

Registration is limited, and the program fee is $40.
