Soup supper to help food pantry

FREEPORT - The Freeport High School Art Department is hosting the second annual Empty Bowls soup supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Freeport Art Museum. Empty Bowls is a fundraiser for the Freeport Salvation Army food pantry and the Freeport Area Church Cooperative.

Danelle Setterstrom, art teacher at Freeport High School, felt the event would not only benefit the community but also showcase the talented artists in the local community. Bowls are donated by local artists, and the ceramics students at Freeport High School. Each of the distinctively original bowls is hand thrown and glazed.

With the purchase of a ticket, the first 200 guests receive a ceramic bowl, and a meal of soup, bread, dessert and drinks donated from local businesses. Guests can keep the bowls as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world.

Meals will be served from 4-7 p.m. and live music will be provided throughout the event. In exchange for a meal and the bowl, guests are asked to give a suggested minimum donation of $12. (Students $10) (children five and under are free, w/out bowl). Tickets can be purchased early to ensure you will receive a bowl. Call Danelle Setterstrom at (815) 232-0451 to purchase tickets or stop by the Freeport Art Museum.
