MONROE - The Sons of Norway District 5 biennial Lodge Meeting and Convention was held June 11-12 in Milwaukee. District 5 includes 37 Wisconsin lodges, including Ostestaden #642 in Monroe, as well as lodges in Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee.
Jerry and Karen Thompson and Elaine and Bill Bethke, delegates from Ostestaden #642, accepted an award for their lodge for earning the most cultural skill awards during the previous two years. Elaine Bethke also received the top prize for being the individual earning the most cultural skill awards.
Karen Thompson and Bill Bethke presented a check from Ostestaden to District 5 president Mary Bennett for the Wisconsin Regional Ski For Light. The Ski for Light program is sponsored annually by District 5 Sons of Norway and uses cross country skiing as a means to introduce people with visual and physical impairments to sport, exercise and health.
