MONROE - Corrina Snider, a student at Parkside Elementary, was selected to receive a 2013 W.T. Graham Youth Art Award for her work "Up Close Snowman."
The award, created by William T. Graham of Evansville, is in its 25th year. Graham created the program as a way of recognizing student creativity in Wisconsin. The program is also running in collaboration with the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and the Wisconsin Art Education Association.
Approximately 40 student works of art were selected to receive the award this year, and six of the award winning pieces will be purchased by Graham.
The first art show was the Wisconsin Southwest Regional Art Show, held Feb. 3 to Feb. 10 at the Hilldale Shopping Center, Madison. The show was sponsored by the Wisconsin Art Education Association, to celebrate Youth Art Month. Each Monroe school - Parkside, Northside Elementary, Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy, Monroe Middle School and Monroe High School - attended and had three ribbon winners - blue, red and white. The blue ribbon winners were honored at the Wisconsin student art exhibit at the Rotunda of the Wisconsin State Capitol.
Parkside winners were all from Sarah Jung's class and included Snider as the blue ribbon winner, Breann Steiner as the red ribbon winner, and Payton Johnson as the white ribbon winner.
Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy winners were from Pat Manion's class and included Gabi Ils, blue ribbon; Olivia Levia, red ribbon; and Taylor Broge, white ribbon.
Northside winners were from Briana Cleary's class and included Griffin Clark, blue ribbon; Payton Blum, red ribbon; and Kaitlyn Elgin, white ribbon.
Monroe Middle School and high school winners were students of Kathy King, Michele Mars, Kris Preboske and Janice Douglas. Blue ribbon winners were Michaela Geiken, Alyssa Dale, Tyler Richards and Madeline Kuckuk. Red ribbon winners were Ethen Keller, Hannah Zweifel, Alli Leutenegger and Jaena LeGault. White ribbon winners were Jake Heinen, Delaney Jacobson, Madalin Zentner and Cammi Ganshert.
