Simmons School, 1912

Local historian Matt Figi recently received an envelope with some Green County postcards from Fred Schadt of Florida. One of the postcards had this image on it that indicates that Ida Geigel was the teacher at this school in 1912. On the back, in old-fashioned handwriting, was a message from Margie to Edna that said in part, “This is our school they are a lot of them.” The postcard was not postmarked, so may have been handed to Margie or mailed in an envelope. Also written on the back, in a more recent handwriting, was Simmons School, Margie Blumer, and Jake Blumer. Contact Figi at 608-325-6503 or mfigi48@tds.net if you can identify any of the people in the photograph or if you might have any records from that school. Simmons School was one of eight schools in Washington township. The building that housed the school has been remodeled into a home and is located at N5297 Wisconsin 69.
