MONROE - Shakespeare on the Edge took part in the Great Cardboard Boat Regatta at Grayslake, Ill., recently.

This was the third annual race at Grayslake put on by the parks division and the third race for the youth and teens of Shakespeare on the Edge.

This year Shakespeare on the Edge built two boats, a black coffin, called the "Living Dead," and a fairy boat, called "A Midsummer's Swim." Tara Fetterolf, 15, created the coffin idea, and Ericah Johnson, 14, created the fairy-themed boat.

Both boats were created by the youth and teens, with the expertise building and design of Dr. Lester Nider.

The youth and teens of Shakespeare on the Edge won the trophy for Best Dressed Team for the Living Dead coffin boat and brought home the third-place Trophy for the Open Division Race for "A Midsummer's Swim" fairy boat.

Shakespeare on the Edge participated in the Summer Fair on the Square Aug. 8.

The group's next event is Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Piazza at W5549 Center Road. The group will host a Renaissance Faire with artisans, performers, musicians, food, jugglers, dancers, ax throwers, the Suitcase Shakespeare Company from Chicago, and a silent auction from noon to 6 p.m., followed by a performance of The Tempest by Shakespeare on the Edge's youth and teen company The Eclectic Rogues, from 7 to 10 p.m.
