Shakespeare on the Edge holding auditions

MONROE - Shakespeare on the Edge Inc. of Monroe will present its annual youth company production with William Shakespeare's "The Merry Wives of Windsor."

Youth ages 5-18 can participate in this fast-paced, modernized, fun introduction to "Merry Wives," which has been re-written by the organization's core company of youth. In the play, Principal John Falstaff leads a high school. In the end, the school will play tricks and have its revenge. The show has been made appropriate for youth and families by cutting out Shakespeare's language and some of the story, but none of the fun.

All youth who audition are cast in a part. Both non-speaking and speaking roles will be available.

Rehearsals are intermixed with games, team-building and learning the play. All work at Shakespeare on the Edge focuses on positive self-esteem building in an anti-bullying environment.

All programming will be held at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St., Monroe.

Auditions will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. All youth must be present both days of auditions.

Rehearsals will be Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Feb. 2.

Performances will be at 2 and 6 p.m. Feb. 4.

Participation is free, and youth from all communities are encouraged to participate. For more information, go to info@shakespeareontheedge.org or contact the director, Jennifer Bethel, at 608-558-6582.

Youth are also invited to get involved in Shakespeare on the Edge's year-round programming.
