Master Sgt. Nancy Vargas, Petaluma, Calif., retired March 1, from the US Air Force Reserves, after more than 27 years of combined military service. Vargas begin her career in 1978 entering four years of active duty in the US Air Force, after graduating from Blackhawk High School in 1976. In 1985, she entered the USAF National Guard at Billy Mitchell Field Airport, Milwaukee. In 1998, she transferred to the USAF Reserves, 349th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Travis AFB, Calif., serving as a senior non-commissioned officer in supply administration. Vargas deployed to many overseas bases in Europe (Desert Storm 1991), Kuwait, Korea and most recently to the island of Cyprus, in the Mediterranean for 120 days in 2007. Vargas has three adult daughters, Rianna, Maria and Kayla. She is the daughter of Dorothy Wicklund, St Germaine, and late Arvid Wicklund. She is employed by the City of Petaluma Police Dept, Petaluma, Calif.
