MILTON - Welding as a team sport comes to the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center at 10 a.m. May 11 in the Welding Fabrication Lab at the AMTC, 15 Plumb St., when the Blackhawk Technical College welding program plays host to the "Junkyard Wars," an event where teams of high school students create art from junk. Local high schools participating include Monroe and Albany.

Teams comprised of four students will compete by turning supplied piles of scrap metal into a sculpture over a three-hour period. BTC will supply the scrap metal, the welding and fabrication equipment and one welding student per team to assist the high school welders with more complex equipment.

Competitors will receive lunch and will learn more about the BTC Welding curriculum.

Junkyard Wars is based on a cable television program of the same name.
