School open house is Aug. 29

DARLINGTON - A school orientation and open house for the elementary and middle school of the Darlington Community School District will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29.

Staff will be available to take kindergarten through fourth grade students who are new to the district on a tour of the building from 4 to 4:20 p.m. and from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Class lists will be posted, and students can bring school supplies to place in their new classrooms.

Any new fifth-grade through eighth-grade students who have scheduling questions or would like a tour of the building can stop in the guidance office at 4 p.m. A special orientation session will be held in the gymnasium for fifth-grade through eighth-grade students, from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Following a brief presentation, students will be introduced to staff. After reviewing schedules, students can find homerooms, classrooms and lockers. Students in grades five through eighth who are unable to attend orientation will receive their schedules on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Parents in attendance will be able to put funds in students' electronic lunch accounts, as well as pay any required fees. Students in 4K through fourth grade have a $5 book fee, and students in fifth grade through eighth grade have a $10 book fee. An optional athletic card is available for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, for $10. The card admits students to all regular season athletic events for the 2013-14 school year. Assignments books will also be available for purchase for students in fourth grade through eighth grade.
