MONROE — The Green County Home and Community Education announced the winners of this year’s high school senior scholarships. The three students that have been chosen for this year’s scholarships are Melanie Humke of Belleville High School, Marisa Vosberg of Monroe High School and Kaiya Zurfluh of Albany High School.
Melanie is the daughter of Tanya and Dan Humke. She comes from a family of four and works at Walgreens. She is planning to pursue a major in biology and minor in mathematics. She plans to apply to the honors program and the University Biocore program that will help her in scientific research. Her final goal is to finish her Bachelor’s degree and head to medical school to become a pediatrician specializing in osteology. She participates in sports, several high school service clubs and participated in many community events. She took several advanced college courses also and received many excellent letters of recommendation. She ranked first in her graduating class this year at Belleville High School.
Our second winner is Marissa Vosberg. Marissa is the daughter of Phil and Laura Vosberg. She comes from a family of three and plans to attend Princeton University. She belongs to the Young Americans 4-H Club and several other groups at Monroe High School. She has also taken several advanced college courses through high school while raising her own dairy herd at home. She served as the Green County Dairy Queen. She ranked second out of her class of 190 at Monroe High School.
Kaiya Zurfluh, daughter of Ryan and Tonya Zurfluh, a graduate of Albany High School is our third winner. She comes from a family of five and is a member of the Albany FFA. She is an active member of many Albany community groups, Albany High School band and high school sports. She has also participated in two different mission trips. She intends to earn a college degree in Legal Studies and Sociology, helping out those in need. She ranked first in her class at Albany High School.
