MONROE - Dr. Gregory D. Schardt has joined the orthodontic practice of Dr. Scott B. Patterson, with offices in Monroe and Freeport. The new practice name is Patterson & Schardt Orthodontics Where Dentists Take Their Own Kids LLC.

Schardt is a native of Wilmette, Ill., and is an honors graduate of the University of Illinois, where he earned a bachelor of science in both psychology and dentistry, Doctor of Dental Surgery, and Master of Science in the Department of Orthodontics. He has scientific research published in two formats.

Schardt has six years of clinical experience and is only the second board-certified orthodontist to practice in Green, Lafayette, Stephenson and Jo Daviess counties.

In announcing the change, Patterson said, "I am very pleased to have been able to find a colleague with such outstanding credentials. With Dr. Schardt on board, we are now able to devote even more "doctor time" to the care of each patient, thereby enhancing our clinical outcomes. Our goals include completing more appointments on time, further expanding our treatment options, and improving our patients' oral hygiene. We share similar treatment philosophies and clinical abilities, and equally important, a commitment to providing the best care we can to each of our patients."

Schardt plans to move to Monroe within the month. His hobbies include tropical fish, music, fishing, swimming and eating limburger cheese sandwiches at Baumgartner's.
