ST. LOUIS — SSM Health has named Samuel L. Ross, MD, MS, to SSM Health Ministries and its Board of Directors.
Ross was one of health care’s early leaders in working to eliminate health disparities in U.S. communities. He currently serves Bon Secours Mercy Health as Chief Community Health Officer. He is responsible for community education, prevention and wellness.
Ross served as Board Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Baltimore branch, and is the immediate past Board Chair for 340B Health. He also served as a board member for America’s Essential Hospitals, chairing the Membership Committee, and has earned numerous awards and recognitions.
In 2018, Ross was appointed to the Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism in Maryland. He served on the Baltimore City Police Commissioner’s African American Advisory Council, the Board of Behavioral Health System Baltimore, and in 2015, he co-chaired the mayor’s Heroine Treatment and Prevention Task Force.
Ross received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School in San Antonio, Texas, and a Master of Science in Medical Management from the University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, Texas.
