Richland Players to stage 'Two Pairs of Shorts'

ORANGEVILLE - The Mighty Richland Players Dinner Theater opens "Two Pairs of Shorts" on Friday, Sept. 12. The show will play Sept. 12, 13 and 14, Sept. 20 and 21 and Sept. 27 and 28. All shows are dinner shows, and Sunday shows are matinees. According to John Buford, "We've combined several comedic short stories, some original, and we've put together something that we think will keep the audience in stitches from start to finish."

The show opens with The Tune He Played, a skit about a one-tune piano man getting trapped into giving a "command performance." An original, How 'Bout Those Cubs? is one person's thought process as he tries to figure out why the Cubs haven't won a World Series for a century. A few additional skits lead us to the final and major presentation, Once Upon A Beginning, by E. Eugene Perry. This is an irreverent look at how a rather brash reptile strikes deals with three famous couples from the Old Testament. This shameless revisionist biblical history reveals the secrets behind how Samson got his haircut, Adam discovered applesauce, and Noah's wife finally got a name.

Unlike most dinner theater productions, the stories will be spaced between courses, allowing a pleasant flow of food, conversation, and entertainment. The title, Two Pairs of Shorts, came from the concept of four short stories. However, according to Buford, "It should really be labeled as Three Pairs of Shorts since we've expanded it by two more short stories."

The meal, again, will be catered by Tammy Jo's Restaurant in Orangeville. Following a spring green medley salad, the main course will be Chicken Cordon Bleu. The dessert, brownie bites drizzled with raspberry sauce, is special, too. The cost is $40 for adults and $20 for those 12 and under. Reservations are required. For more information or reservations, telephone the dinner theater at (815) 819-1310, or visit the theater online at www.mightyrichlandplayers.com.
