The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department will begin taking shelter and community center reservations at 6 a.m., Monday, Jan. 3, for the 2011 year.
When you enter the office, you will need to take a number. Park and Recreation Department staff members will begin taking reservations at 7:30 a.m. They will reserve the shelters on a first-come, first-serve basis. They encourage any businesses wishing to hold their company picnic at one of the parks to come in and make their reservations on Jan. 3 or soon thereafter. Phone reservations will not be permitted.
To determine if groups need a special event permit, the groups will be asked the following questions on their reservation form: Will you have more than 200 people in attendance?; Will you bring in outside attractions (i.e. dunk tank, inflatables, etc.)?; Are you going to pitch a canopy tent?; Is your event open to the general public?; Will you be charging admission, collection donations, or selling anything? If you answer yes, to any of the above, you will need to see the City Clerk that day to obtain a special event permit.
The City Clerk will determine if a special event permit is needed after you complete the necessary paperwork.
