Reception, garden tour set for July 20

BLANCHARDVILLE - A show-opening artist reception will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, July 20, for "The Artists in the Garden" art show at River Valley Trading Co., 204 S. Main St., Blanchardville. Meet the artists whose creations were inspired by local gardens and enjoy light refreshments provided by the Blanchardville Women's Club. Music will be performed by Susan Jorenby, a Pecatonica High School graduate who then went on to University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Jorenby has toured with the Norman Luboff Choir for four years and with 95 musicals around the United States and Canada as singer, actress, or director. She recently toured New York, Florida, Ohio and Illinois with off-Broadway musical "Mamaleh". Currently, she is a music teacher and recording artist.

At the reception Jorenby will sing a selection of musical theater, easy country, gospel, old standards, seventies and pop. Bill Cary, also of Blanchardville, will accompany her on guitar for one set.

This show will hang in the River Valley Gallery until August 22.

After viewing the art and meeting the artists, tour the beautiful local gardens that provided the creative inspiration for "The Artists in the Garden" from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday for the second annual Blanchardville Women's Club garden tour. The fundraiser supports their community projects. The tour will go on rain or shine. But in case of severe weather will be rescheduled for July 27.

The eight gardens in this year's tour will feature displays of annuals perennials, and woods.

They include a Victorian style garden with a pond and perennials, a 250-year-old oak forest with Wisconsin native plant restoration, a traditional Norwegian garden with heirloom vegetables and meditation circle based on ancient European stone circles and American Indian medicine wheels, a cut flower garden, organic vegetable garden and tree farm, a child's vegetable garden, terraced gardens on rolling hills with prairie flowers and lovely ponds, and Nana Schowalter 's sculptures.

Tickets are $6 and are available at River Valley Trading Company or at Woodford State Bank in Blanchardville.
