Rakestraw wins writing award

WHITEWATER - Sydney Rakestraw, a sophomore English major from Albany, was named a winner in the 2016 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater University Writing Awards.

Winners were honored at a ceremony April 26 in the James R. Connor University Center Old Main Ballroom.

Rakestraw won in the expository essay category for the piece titled "Evaluating the Accuracy of Speculative Fiction."

Students are nominated for this award by faculty members for exemplifying strong writing ability through a unique writing piece. The piece is selected from the students' coursework and then nominated in one of the many categories. Categories include creative writing, research papers and expository essays.
