Quilt show scheduled for April 18-19

MONROE - The Courthaus Quilters Guild and the Monroe High School German Exchange Club will present a quilt show on April 18-19 at the Monroe High School gymnasium, 1600 26th St. in Monroe. This year's theme is a Garden of Quilts. The event will include a judged quilt show, a merchant mall, and Hoffman Challenge Display as well as gift sales by Guild members. The show will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 19.

Entries for the judged quilt show are welcomed from any interested parties. Entry fee is $5 for the first item with a $1 fee for each additional item. Free admission is included with your entry. Entries for the judged quilt show should be in the bed quilt, crib or lap quilt, wall quilt or quilted accessories categories. Entry fees are waived for youth desiring to enter items in the youth categories. Items submitted for the judging must be clean and in show condition and they must be made by the exhibitor. Entries may be dropped off at the Monroe High School M-Room between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Friday, April 17. Items may also be dropped off at Wing'n Pond Gallery by previous arrangement. Additionally, there will be a Trunk Show of antique floral-theme quilts. These quilts are for display only and no entry fee is required.

The show will also feature a Hoffman Challenge Display this year. The Challenge is in its 18th year and features a traveling collection of dolls. Each year involves a different challenge for participants. More information can be found at www.hoffmanchallenge.com.

A food court will be operated by the MHS German Exchange Club to raise funds for their 2010 trip to Germany. Other activities during the show include Viewers' Choice voting, raffles for a queen-size Alberta Stars pattern quilt as well as various gift baskets. Raffle tickets can be purchased in advance from quilt guild members and at Wing'n Pond Gallery or during the show.
