MONROE - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources recently made changes regarding veterans in receipt of a Purple Heart medal.

Senate Bill 178, signed by Gov. Scott Walker on Friday, Nov. 8, authorizes resident and non-resident Purple Heart medal recipients who exhibit proof they received a Purple Heart medal to purchase a Conservation Patron license at a reduced rate. The cost for a resident is $10 and the nonresident cost is $161. In addition, a nonresident Purple Heart recipient who exhibits proof they have received a Purple Heart medal may receive hunting, fishing and trapping approvals at resident rates.

Purple Heart recipients who want to receive the reduced price Conservation Patron license or licenses at resident rates are required to produce documentation, such as DD-214 or DD-215, at a DNR Service Center.
