BELOIT - Area organist Deborah Krauss Smith has been invited to lead a public hymn sing at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 6 at First Congregational Church, 801 Bushnell St., to conclude the church's Musica Maxima Concert Series for the season.
Titled "Mostly American: Great Hymns of the 19th Century," the hymn sing includes "Standing on the Promises," "Blessed Assurance," "I Love to Tell the Story" and "To God Be the Glory." The hour-long program will also include commentary about the hymns, as well as a few solo organ pieces, including "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."
The hymn sing is a repeat of the program Krauss Smith presented at the Overture Center, Madison.
Krauss Smith is currently Organist/Director of Music at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe. She is also the founder and main organist for Midday Masterworks, a quarterly organ mini-recital series in Monroe, now in its eleventh year.
A free-will offering will be accepted for the Musica Maxima Concert Series.
