MONROE - Lower-income homeowners are invited to apply to receive free home repairs from Project Home's Hammer with a Heart program. The annual event will celebrate its 10th anniversary on May 7, 2011 by providing free home repairs in the area. Homeowners who are elderly, have disabilities, or with younger children who can not afford their repair needs are encouraged to apply. The home must be structurally sound, but need repair.
Eligible homeowners must meet income guidelines, and both own and occupy a single-family home - not a mobile home or condominium, within Dane or Green Counties.
Skilled trades people do the work and repairs that improve the health, safety and comfort of the home are first priority.
Typical projects include installing or replacing stairs, wheelchair ramps, flooring, doors, bathroom fixtures, lighting, drywall, as well as interior painting and yard work. Generous volunteers, corporate sponsors, and businesses that donate or discount materials make this program possible.
Applications must be submitted by November 10, 2010, and are available by calling Project Home at 246-3737; or apply online at www.ProjectHomeWI.org - look for the Hammer with a Heart homeowner application page.
