DARLINGTON — The Darlington Pop Factory Players are planning to perform “Rent” during several dates in January at the Leona M. Havens Theater, 11838 Center Hill Rd., Darlington.

Starring in the show will be D.J. Benischek playing Roger Davis; Braden Zywicki playing Mark Cohen, Matt Anderson playing Tom Collins; Andrew Kluesner playing Benjamin Coffin III; Sadie Fitzsimons playing Joanne Jefferson; Luke Smetters playing Angel Dumott Schunard; and Jaxin Mackienruf-Stephens playing Mimi Marquez.

“Rent” is a rock musical set in “Alphabet City” — a neighborhood in Manhattan’s East Village during the late 1980s.

It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists who are largely on the margin of society struggling to survive and create a life when HIV/AIDS, addiction and homelessness was rampant in NYC, and mere survival was an accomplishment.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18; 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19; 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 (ASL interpreted performance); 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25; and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26. Tickets will be available at the door.
