Piano, cello and violin music trio to perform
Second of eight Sunday shows is set at Monroe Arts Center Sunday

MONROE — Monroe Arts Center’s Sunday Concert Series continues with a performance at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Whitewater Piano Trio. 

This is the second of eight Sunday performances to be presented as part of this Series. All Sunday concerts are held in MAC’s Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall, 1315 11th Street, Monroe.

The Whitewater Piano Trio at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is one of the music department’s flagship faculty chamber music ensembles. 

This talented ensemble includes Benjamin Whitcomb (cello), Leanne League (violin) and Myung Hee Chung (piano). Primarily focusing on the major works of the piano trio repertoire, the group performs on and off campus and is heard frequently on the “Live from the Chazen” concert series, broadcast live on Wisconsin Public Radio.

Benjamin Whitcomb is a professor of cello and music theory at UW-Whitewater, where he has received awards for his teaching, research and service. As an active recitalist and chamber musician, he performs more than 30 concerts each year around the country and overseas.

Myung Hee Chung started playing the piano at the age of 4 and won prestigious national competitions in Korea by the age of 10. She came to the United States at 17 and later attended the Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music in New York. She has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the world. In August 1995, she joined the faculty at UW-Whitewater, where she is a full professor and keyboard coordinator.

Leanne League is an assistant concertmaster of the Madison Symphony Orchestra and a core member of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. She is an adjunct instructor at UW-Whitewater and runs a private violin studio in Madison. From 1996-1999, she was a fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami, Florida. As a Baroque violinist, she performs with the Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble.

The UW-Whitewater Piano Trio, now in its 20th season, will be performing masterpieces by Mozart, Schubert and Brahms at the Monroe concert.
