DARLINGTON - Private pesticide applicator training for 2011 are slated for next month. These training sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Feb. 1, at the First Banking Center, Darlington, and Feb. 23 at the Belmont Convention Center, Belmont. A test only session will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 1.
Training and testing allow farm operators and employees to become certified to use restricted use pesticides. Pesticides are classified as restricted use when they are potentially hazardous to the applicator or the environment. Training provides information on safe handling and application of these pesticides and applicator certification allows more options for insect and weed control in crops.
Pre-registration is required with a $30 cost for testing and certification. Study materials can be sent to participants who pre-register by mailing in the $30 charge indicating which training session they plan to attend. The check should be made payable to UWEX and sent to UW-Extension, 627 Washington St., Darlington, WI 53530. Participants may also pre-register by stopping at the Extension Office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Call Ted Bay at (608) 723-2125 with questions on pesticide applicator training.
