Perry Point, Md.: Monroe resident taking on civil challenge

PERRY POINT, MD - Wendy Huber of Monroe is one of 311 young people pledging to perform 10 months of public service throughout the country as part of the 14th Class of the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), an AmeriCorps program.

As a Corps Member, Huber will spend 10 months getting things done for America. Although based at the NCCC campus in Perry Point, Maryland, Huber will spend the next six weeks working to prevent invasive vines, shrubs and trees from taking over the parks in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Huber said, "I am excited to take my experience out into the world, meet new people and get things done."

Before the end of her 10-month stint, Huber will work on at least three other projects, including projects supporting the rebuilding efforts of those communities destroyed by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

AmeriCorps NCCC is a residential, leadership program for young people ages 18 to 24. In exchange for completing 1,700 hours of service during a 10-month term, Huber receives an education award, living stipend and. AmeriCorps programs are administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency.
