FIFIELD — The Price County Historical Society, which owns and operates the Old Town Hall and Greenfield School Museums at its campus in Fifield, recently announced the dedication of the Louis A. Koenig Research Center at 1 p.m. on Sept. 16.
The building is named in honor of Louis A. Koenig, who was born and raised in Fifield and served as Price County’s District Attorney during the decade of the 1930s and early 40s. Although, born and raised in Fifield, Louis was a long time resident of Monroe after purchasing a law practice there in 1945. In addition to his law practice and elected positions, Louis and his wife Daisy were active in many local organizations in Green County.
The Price County Historical Society has long needed a secure, climate controlled building with sufficient space to house all of its archival documents, which presently include thousands of original photographs, maps, journals, diaries, family histories and other historical records of the area, some predating the formation of the county. These documents, along with the administrative records, are currently housed in three different buildings located throughout the county. It has long been a goal of the Society to centralize these records and functions.
The Louis A. Koenig Research Center became possible because of an extremely generous donation by Louis’ daughter, Carol J. Koenig, along with the Society’s membership, individuals, businesses and organizations.
