DARLINGTON — Descendants of Cornish immigrants, William and Matilda Paynter, will gather at Riverside Park behind Piggly Wiggly in Darlington at noon on Sunday, June 30, 2024. Guests should bring their own table service and a dish to pass.
William Paynter, wife Matilda and two small children came to America in 1853. William was a tin miner in Cornwall, but in America he bought land from the government in the old Yellowstone neighborhood and farmed. The land was in the family for more than 100 years. Many of their descendants into the fourth and fifth generations still live in the area.
