Passport fair accompanies stamp show

MONROE - The Monroe Post Office is hosting a Passport Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 3 in conjunction with the Monroe Stamp and Postcard Club show at the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave.

Guests of the event can either apply for passports or learn more about passports and international travel by speaking with one of the agents. People applying for a passport book or passport card must bring some identification items with them. All items must be originals, not photocopies. Certain travel restrictions apply to passport cards.

• Need two identical passport photos of yourself. Passport photos are available at the event for $15.

• Need a valid photo identification of yourself. Acceptable identification include: state driver's license, government photo identification, state-issued photo identification, or an old passport. The identification cannot be expired. Also bring a photo copy of the photo identification to the passport fair.

• Need proof of citizenship. An original or certified birth certificate with an official seal, or original naturalization papers. Hospital birth certificates are not acceptable.

• Funds. An adults passport (16 and older) costs $100 in fees. Fees must be paid before the application is accepted. The cost for minors (15 and below) is $85. Personal checks or money orders are necessary for the State Department fee (no credit cards).

• Minors under 15 must be present with both parents and must bring original birth certificates. Minor under 15 may need special permission for international travel.
