Parks and Rec to hold annual karate tourney

MONROE - The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department will hold its fourth annual "Cheese City Classic" martial arts tournament Nov. 18 at Monroe Middle School, 1510 13th Street.

Registration is at 9 a.m., the black belt judges' meeting is at 9:30 a.m. and the tournament begins at 10 a.m.

Those holding white belts and above may participate. The fee is $35, with a $5 discount for each additional family member. Spectators may attend for free.

Events will include: Forms, boards, sparring and weapons; open or traditional. Grand Champion trophies will be awarded. The noon entertainment will be Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association from Madison and the second demonstration will be the Society of Traditional Karate Do from Freeport.

The following sponsors donated toward silent auction baskets: Family Video, Bargain Spot, Orchid, Sunbeam Outlet Store, Frehner Family Dental, Minhas Brewery, Tim Young American Family Insurance and Wisconsin Cheese Corp.

Participants may register at the Parks and Recreation temporary office in the Streets Department, 1064 5th Avenue or at Monroe Middle School on the day of the event.
