MONROE — The Parks and Recreation Department has openings in the following programs:


“Munchkin Mondays”

“Munchkin Mondays” is for children 3 to 5 years old. The class meets from 9 to 11 a.m. one a month from Halloween to St. Patrick’s Day. This indoor program is held at the Parks & Recreation Community Center, lower level of City Hall, 1110 18th Ave. 

Dates and themes are: Nov. 11, Little Scarecrows; Dec. 9, Santa’s Elves; Jan. 6, Dancing Snowmen; Feb. 3, Our Little Loves; March 16, Adorable Clovers. The program involves arts and crafts, games, stories and free time to enhance listening skills, group play and making new friends.


New Boot Camp Saturdays — Starts Nov. 2

The new adult exercise program “Boot Camp Saturdays,” with instructor Shannan Kaiser, will be held on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 9 to 10 a.m. from Nov. 2 to Jan. 18 at Behring Senior Center. There will be a variety of exercises with moderate to high intensity. This three-month program for anyone 18 and older.


Softball Clinics — Saturday, Nov. 16

Registration starts now for three softball clinics to be held on Saturday, Nov. 16. These clinics are for third- through eighth-grade girls and held at the Monroe High School practice gym. Coach Joe O’Leksy and staff will have: 

Hitting Clinic, 10 to 11:30 a.m. 

Defense Clinic, Noon — 1:30 p.m.

Pitching Clinic, 2 to 3:15 p.m.

Pickleball

Pickleball just started the next session and plays at inside. This adult pickleball program meets from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Parkside Elementary School gym, enter through the west doors. This winter session runs until April 8. 


Total Body Fitness — Next session starts Monday, Nov. 4

This class is held at Behring Senior Center and designed for adults 18 and older to improve fitness and overall health. Exercisers may come and try out a free class or two to see what it’s like. The next session is Nov. 4 through Jan. 29. Classes are from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The 13-week sessions are taught by Shannan Kaiser.

Mondays will focus on functional training to assist in performing the activities of daily life safely and more effectively. These high- and low-impact exercises simulate everyday movements and target core strength using body weight and/or a variety of equipment. Wednesdays will be calorie-burning cardio circuits, which combine cardio and strength exercise to develop muscle endurance, improve cardiovascular ability and burn calories. Moderate to high intensity with modifications available. 


Christmas Camp — Saturday, Nov. 30 

Christmas Camp is for ages 6 to 12 years old. Children can make their very own Christmas gifts. Each child will make and wrap five gifts to give to family or friends. During this time, parents can enjoy shopping without their school-age children as we help them make and wrap their gifts, enjoy a snack and some play time with peers. The program is held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Parks & Recreation Community Center.
