MONROE - The City of Monroe Parks and Recreation Department has several programs planned this fall.
The Mad Science Wizards Show from Milwaukee will be held from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 at Turner Hall, 1217 17th Ave. The free show, sponsored by the Monroe Morning Optimist Club, is open to the public. The show is filled with interactive science demonstrations such as chemical reactions and bubbling potions.
Fitness fun, games and tumbling is also available. Boys and girls ages 3 through 6 will meet from 6 to 6:45 p.m. and boys and girls ages 7 through 10 will meet from 7 to 7:45 p.m. on Monday nights at the Northside Elementary gym, 3005 8 1/2 St. The fall session runs from Nov. 4 through Dec. 16. The cost is $24 for residents and $34 for non-residents. Class size is limited.
The next session of karate will start Nov. 26 and continue through Feb. 20. Classes are instructed by Timm Burns and are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Behring Senior Center, 1113 10th St. Classes are based on Tae Kwon Do, with contributions from judo, boxing and other martial arts. The class will cover basic forms, self-defense and sparring. The first two classes are required orientation for new students. New students, both youth and adults, will meet from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. for the first week only. White belts may also attend. All others will begin class the following week. Youth ages 7 through 12 years old will meet from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Adults ages 13 years and older will meet from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents.
