MONROE - The City of Monroe Parks and Recreation department announced activities offered through the department.
There will be two sessions of tennis lessons for students entering first grade through senior year. Lessons are Monday through Friday the first week and Monday through Thursday the second week. Session dates are Monday, July 8 through Thursday, July 18 and Monday, July 22 through Thursday, Aug. 1. The cost is $20 per session for residents and $30 per session for non-residents.
There will be two sessions of tennis match practice starting Monday, July 8 for those entering high school. The program is for tennis players who want to improve their ability in doubles and singles matches. Each day, attendees will practice one drill meant to improve their match play. The rest of the class will be spent playing matches with a coach instructing throughout. The cost is $20 per session.
A high school coed tennis camp will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 22 through Thursday, July 25 at the Recreation tennis courts. The cost is $30 for residents and $40 for non-residents. The middle school coed tennis camp will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5 to Thursday, Aug. 8 at Recreation Park tennis courts.
Adult beginner tennis lessons and an adult co-ed tennis league will be held from Thursday, June 20 to Thursday, July 25 at Northeast Park. The lessons are for players 18 years and older. Lessons are from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and league will be 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $25 for a resident couple and $35 for a non-resident couple for each of the programs.
Adventure Club still has openings. The program is for children ages 5 through 9 and is held from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesday at the Recreation Park north shelter. The class includes crafts, games, special entertainment and trips to the pool. Sessions are from Monday, June 10 through Wednesday, June 26 and Monday, July 8 to Wednesday, July 24. The cost is $30 for residents and $40 for non-residents.
There are openings for the July session of swim lessons that run the same schedule as summer school. The cost for lessons is $35 per session. Class times available are 10:10 to 10:50 a.m. or 11:10 to 11:50 a.m.
There are openings for public swim lessons. Lessons are from 11 to 11:50 a.m. Monday through Friday from Monday, July 29 through Friday, Aug. 9. The cost is $30 for residents and $40 for non-residents.
The Couch-to-5K program is set for 6 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Tuesday, June 18 through Thursday, Aug. 8. The program begins at Parkside School. The group will be split into beginning and advanced runners to accommodate the different levels of experience. The cost is $15 and does include a T-shirt sponsored by Colony Brands.
