Orientation planned

DARLINGTON - Darlington Elementary and Middle School are planning a combined orientation and open house on Thursday, Aug. 30.

Students in kindergarten through fourth grade can visit the school between 4 and 6 p.m. Staff members will be available to take students who are new to the district on a building tour from 4 to 4:20 p.m. and 5:15 and 6 p.m.

Class lists will be posted in respective wings; students are invited to bring school supplies to place in their new classrooms.

Any new fifth- through eighth-grade students who have scheduling questions or would like a building tour are invited to stop in the guidance office at 4 p.m. A special orientation session will be held from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. in the gym for grades five through eight.

Following a brief presentation, students will be introduced to staff. After a review of their schedules, students will be able to locate homerooms, classrooms and lockers. Students who are unable to attend orientation will receive their schedules on Sept. 4.

A meeting for parents who have freshman or new students entering the high school will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21 at the high school. Discussion items include the student homeroom assignment, the review of student schedules and a question and answer session.

A meeting for new students and incoming freshman will be held from 10 to about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22 at the high school. Students will receive their 2012-13 schedule, as well as their locker assignments, a tour of the building and a review of general school policies.
