MONROE - Designs for this year's cheese curd T-shirts came from Michele Mars' eighth-grade art class at Monroe Middle School.
The students submitted more than 50 designs and the Optimist Club selected the top three designs to be featured on this year's T-shirts for Cheese Days.
First place went to Aveona Moen, daughter of Jennifer Moen of Argyle, with "Day Dreaming Cow"; second place to Emma Towne, daughter of Josh and Tracy Towne of Monroe, with "Beer Battered Heaven"; and third place to Tyler Barker, son of Tricia Barker of Monroe and Heath Barker of Monroe, for "Your Will Vs the Curdline." All three winners are from Monroe and were honored at a Monroe Noon Optimist Club meeting, where each was presented with a cash prize and a T-shirt featuring their design.
Sales from T-shirts help the Monroe Optimist clubs support local children's programs in Monroe and throughout Green County. Monroe has two clubs with more than 180 members. Annually the clubs donate more than $50,000 to a variety of children's needs and special events. The Monroe Noon Optimist Club meets at noon Tuesdays at Swiss Alps, and the Monroe Morning Optimist Club meets at 7 a.m. Tuesdays in Club 44 at Pleasant View. Both meetings are open to anyone wanting to learn more about how the clubs help children in the area.
The T-shirts are available at Sugar River Bank, Wisconsin Bank & Trust, First National Bank and Trust and Woodford State Bank or may be ordered by emailing tshirts@optimistclubs.com.
