Monroe Parks and Recreation Department has openings for man one-day events.


Soccer with the Cheesemakers is a one-day program for boys and girls from kindergarten to eighth grade and will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23. The Monroe Boys Cheesemaker Soccer Team will work on soccer skills and drills at the high school football field. The rain site will be at the Monroe High School gym. Registration is required. Everyone will receive a Campion’s Champion t-shirt sponsored by Monroe Lions Club.


Monroe Parks & Recreation will start their Fall Dance program Sept. 9 to Oct. 21. Classes are held on Mondays at the Behring Senior Center. There is still room in the Ballet 1 class for 3 and 4 year olds or first time dancers that runs from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. 

Openings still remain for the Monroe Chess Club, instructed by Eric Jubeck. The group meets from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays from Sept. 11 to Oct. 23. This program is for first through eighth graders interested in becoming better chess players, and will be held at the Monroe High School. Enter through the arch doors, take an immediate left and the room is five doors down. Fee includes Chess Club t-shirt.  Children may ride any bus to the high school. Parks & Recreation staff will meet children at the bus and stay with them until class begins.


Little Munchkin Mondays class meets once a month during holiday time from Halloween to St. Patrick’s Day and welcomes children 3 to 5 years old. This indoor program is held at Parks & Rec Community Center, in the lower level of City Hall. Program will be on Mondays from 9 to 11 a.m. Entertainer Jane Swiggum visits each day with stories and fun. Dates and themes are: Oct 28: Little Monsters; Nov. 11: Little Scarecrows; Dec. 9: Santa’s Elves; Jan. 6: Dancing Snowmen; Feb. 3: Our Little Loves; and March 16: Adorable Clovers. The program involves arts and crafts, games, stories and free time to enhance listening skills, group play and making new friends.
