October is Friends of the Library Month
Monroe Library

MONROE — The Friends of the Monroe Public Library is a nonprofit organization that has been providing support to the library for over 25 years. Funding is provided to the library for programs and needed items.

In 2021 The Friends purchased an oversized flatbed scanner for Library staff. Items purchased for the Youth Services Department included an African-American boy doll from the American Girl brand. The doll is available for loan. Bookshelves were also purchased for the Library’s board book collection.

In 2022 monies were provided to the Youth Services Department for HABA wall elements and a Nintendo Switch with games. Upgrades to the staff conference room and staff lounge were also supported financially.

The Friends of the Monroe Library award $500 scholarships to two Monroe High School seniors each year. The students are awarded the scholarships based on essays written about the importance of libraries in their life or the community. The recipients for 2022 are Quinn Moorman and Olivia Weigel.
