Northwest Illinois Grazing Conference will be held Feb. 6

STOCKTON, Ill. - The Northwest Illinois Grazing Conference is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and will conclude at about 3:30 p.m.

Speakers will address farm-related issues and relate their topics to drought recovery and managing future droughts. Topics and speakers include:

• "Rotational Grazing Basics" by Steve Hollister, retired area resource conservationist, USDA-NRCS.

• "Establishing Pastures and Hay" by Jim Morrison, retired University of Illinois Extension crops educator.

• "Pasture Forage Quality Pays Dividends" by Rhonda Gildersleeve, associate professor and Extension grazing specialist, University of Wisconsin Ag and Natural Resources Extension and UW Madison Dept. of Animal Sciences.

• "Portable Irrigation" by Jay Solomon, University of Illinois Extension educator, environment and energy stewardship.

• "Grazing Cover Crops/Annuals" by Dean Oswald, retired University of Illinois Extension animal systems educator.

• Marketing panel, with representatives from Arnold's Farm, AJ's Lena Maid Meats and Equity Livestock Association.

The event will conclude with a question and answer session.

The cost for the conference is $20 per person if paid by Friday, Feb. 1. After Feb. 1, registration is $30 per person. Seating may be limited.
