EVANSVILLE — While local 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) members may be missing the summer fairs, they did not have to miss out on the competitions those fairs are known for.

State Bank of Cross Plains’ (SBCP) Ag Division held an online contest called “Missing the Summer Fair” for all 4-H or FFA members in 12 counties. To enter, contestants recorded and submitted a 3-minute video presenting their fair project for virtual judging. The contest was open to any project historically judged at a summer fair, including livestock, sewing projects, bakery, and more. The response far exceeded contest expectations with 82 entries.

Each age group was awarded $1,000, with any ties splitting the prize equally.

“Our communities have found so many positive ways to adapt to the changes and cancellations brought on by COVID-19 this year,” shares Steve Eager, SBCP Market President and head of the bank’s Ag Division. “We felt like this contest was one small way to support the young people who put so much work into creating their summer fair projects. Based on the quality of the entries we received, I’m excited about the future of the ag industry in Southern Wisconsin!”

SBCP’s Ag Division named seven winners across five age groups:

AGE 9-10 WINNERS (tie)

●  Addison Moyer from Stoughton, Wisconsin (Triangle Toppers 4-H club) for her Pig entry.

●  Audrey Johnson from Evansville, Wisconsin (Evansville 4-H club) for her Sewing project.

AGE 11-12 WINNER

●  AJ Lund from Janesville, Wisconsin (La Prairie 4-H club) for Project: Sheep.

AGE 13-14 WINNERS (tie)

●  Serena Busalacchi from Madison (Paoli Fireballs 4-H club) for her Horse Showing project.

●  Lucy Johnson from Evansville (Evansville 4-H club) for her Sewing/Style Revue entry.

AGE 15-16 WINNER

●  Anna Martin from Brooklyn, Wisconsin (Brooklyn Mighty Mites) for Project: Consumer Savvy/Upscaling.

AGE 17-19 WINNER

●  Julia Tatooles from Madison (Paoli Fireballs 4-H club) for her Project: Horse Showing.
