Nine medical students receive scholarships

MONROE - Dr. George E. Breadon, president of the Green County Medical Society, recently presented $500 scholarships from the "Gavin Breadon Memorial Scholarship Fund" to nine Green County area medical students.

Those receiving scholarships were:

Marissa Young, daughter of Tim and Christine Young, Monroe: A 2007 Monroe High School graduate with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Saint Zavior University, Chicago, Young has graduated with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and started a residency in pediatrics in Indianapolis.

Cory Ganshert, son of Dr. Tom and Jodi Ganshert, Monroe: A 2005 graduate of Monroe High School and a 2009 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in medical microbiology and immunology, Ganshert went on to earn a Master of Science in medical sciences in 2011 at Loyola University, Chicago, followed by two years of research in Chicago. He has completed his junior year at Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Kelsey Duxtad-Schmidt, daughter of Robert and Jennifer Duxstad, Monroe: A 2009 Monroe High School graduate and a graduate of UW-Madison in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science, she has completed her junior year at UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

Gavin Stormont, son of Dr. Dan and Dr. Annette Stormont, Monroe: A 2006 graduate of Monroe High School and a 2012 graduate of UW-Madison, he has completed his junior year at UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

John Frey, son of Dr. John and Cathy Frey, Monroe: A 2006 graduate of Monroe High School and a 2011 graduate of UW-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in MMI and a Master of Science from UW-Madison in comparative biomedical sciences, Frey has completed his junior year at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences.

Priti Rana, daughter of Dr. Kishor and Bhanumati (Sula) Rana, Monroe: A 2008 graduate of Monroe High School and a 2012 graduate of UW-La Crosse with a Bachelor of Science in biology, biomedical concentration and minors in Spanish and chemistry, Rana has completed her junior year and will graduate in 2017 from Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Cullen Buchanan, son of Dr. David and Julie Buchanan, Monroe: A 2009 graduate of Appleton High School and 2013 graduate of UW-Madison with a degree in kinesiology, he has just completed his sophomore year at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Makenzie Bruce, daughter of James and Veronica Bruce, Monroe: A 2010 graduate of Monroe High School and 2014 graduate of UW-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in biology and history, she has just completed her freshman year at UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

Emma Fenner, daughter of DuWayne Fenner and Myra Schink, Monticello: A 2009 graduate of Monticello High School and 2013 graduate of UW-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in biology, she has just completed her freshman year at UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.
