MONROE - The Monroe High School chapter of National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 30 new members into the organization Monday, Oct. 3.
Chapter officers Elizabeth Shuda, president; Christina Wyttenbach, vice president; Carissa Brooks, secretary; and Rachel Wellnitz, treasurer, highlighted the NHS characteristics of character, leadership, service, and scholarship in the traditional candle lighting ceremony. Jeff Bennett, an MHS English teacher, was the keynote speaker. The NHS advisors for this year are Stephanie Hammer and Michelle Mars.
New inductees were Sarah Alexander, Rebecca Armstrong, Alex Aurit, Tyler Barta, Emma Calaway, Troy Carpenter, Steve Christiansen, Shelby Coffey, Allison Crubaugh, Claire Dombkowski, Tabitha Egli, Kristine Elsen, Emily Emberson, Avery Erb, Josh Farrey, Mikhaila Friske, Trevor Gorr, Payton Hoesly, Briana Katzenberger, Jesse Keizer, Sarah Kind, Oliver Lees, Rhese Morgan, Anika Nelson, Abby Rogerson, Rachel Root, Wytney Schilt, Jessica Shaker, Vincent Wartenweiler and Zach Wren.
The MHS chapter of NHS began in 1990, with the intention of honoring leading scholars and teaching the importance of providing service to others.
