MONROE — The Blackhawk Technical College Foundation is now accepting applications for a new scholarship opportunity, Agricultural Scholarships for High School Seniors. A total of ten $1,000 awards are available for student who will start at Blackhawk in fall 2021. The application deadline is March 30.
This new scholarship opportunity is made possible thanks to the Fund for the Future of Agriculture. The fund created by Jim and Therese Gratz and Fran and Sandy Donny aims to provide scholarship and program funding for BTC agriculture programs. The goal of the initiative is to attract and retain young people to agricultural professions.
“The BTC Foundation is proud to launch this life-changing scholarship opportunity to help make it easier for students to pursue an agricultural degree at Blackhawk,” said BTC Foundation Director Lisa Hurda.
Scholarships are available to high school seniors from Rock and Green Counties (and surrounding communities) who plan to enroll in the Agriculture/Science and Technology program at Blackhawk Technical College after high school graduation. Students selected are awarded $1,000 tuition scholarship award with $500 being dispersed during their first semester and $500 dispersed during their second semester.
Requirements for the scholarship include:
● Complete a scholarship application
● Demonstrate a financial need
● Demonstrate a desire to pursue a career in agriculture
● Enroll in the Agribusiness/Science and Technology associate degree program at Blackhawk
● Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
The Fund for the Future of Agriculture was founded to help make agriculture education possible for students in the region. Further, the fund will help train and retain professionals for the agriculture industry in south central Wisconsin.
The scholarship fund got a boost last fall thanks to a $40K gift from Colony Brands Foundation of Monroe. “We are grateful for community partners like Colony Brands who clearly understand the importance of a technical college education,” said Hurda. “We continue to accept donations to sustain the growth and operations of this program.”
