BRODHEAD - The Brodhead Chamber of Commerce will host the Wildflower Art Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11 in Veteran's Park.
The Wildflower Art Festival, part of the Wildflower Festival celebrating the many native plantings in Brodhead, will be held during the annual Covered Bridge Days.
Wildflower and nature-themed art will be encouraged but not required for the juried show. All work must be designed and created by the artist, who must be present during the show; no buying or selling will be allowed, nor will work produced with kits, molds, plans, prefabricated forms or other commercial methods. Accepted media includes ceramics, fiber, glass, graphics (including drawing and printmaking), jewelry, painting, photography, sculpture, wood, 2-D mixed media and 3-D mixed media. All artists will be responsible for providing their own display equipment.
The art festival will be judged and $500 in cash prizes, donated by Applied Ecological Services, Brodhead, will be awarded. New this year is a Patron Purchase Program, which allows businesses and individuals to pay in advance for the purchase of art of their choosing at the show.
Artists will be assisted in unloading by Brodhead-Juda football players. Pastries and coffee will be provided during set-up, free lunch will be provided by Boy Scout Troop No. 108 and free ice water will be available throughout the day.
Applications were recently mailed to hundreds of artists. Area artists who did not receive an application and wish to apply can visit www.cityofbrodheadwi.us and download a printable application or email co-chair Joella Miller at joellam@alwayswiredbeadlady.com or call her at (608) 897-8311.
