MONROE - The Monroe Public Library and Transition Green County will sponsor a community potluck and movie screening, featuring the award-winning film, "Food Inc.," from 5:30 to 8 p.m. May 10 in the Community Room at Monroe Public Library.
The free, public event begins with a community potluck from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., with a Spanish "tapas" theme. Tapas is the Spanish word for an appetizer that, when shared together with other appetizers, makes a meal. Bring your favorite appetizers or snacks to share with others.
From 6:30 to 8 p.m., grab a seat for the award-winning film, Food, Inc., as it explores America's industrialized food system and its effect on our environment, health, economy and workers' rights. The film will be followed by a discussion with local farmers and food artisans. If you're a farmer, food artisan or advocate for fresh, local, seasonal food or drink (or local fiber, fuel or other product or service), feel free to share how you can serve area residents with what your products or services.
Transition Green County is a new local grassroots organization that's part of a larger planet-wide effort to create, enhance and promote community projects - to grow our food, generate power within the county, develop a stronger local economy - and rebuild local resilience and self-reliance in the process.
