MONROE — Green Haven Family Advocates will host its 30th annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale May 6-7 in Monroe and Monticello.

The sale runs Friday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to noon. Locations include First National Bank on Monroe’s Square, and Voegeli Chevrolet in Monticello.

All plants were purchased initially from Ahren’s Acres Greenhouse. 

Green Haven Family Advocates, Inc. is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the families of Green County through prevention education, advocacy, support and services to adults and children affected by domestic violence.

In 2021, Green Haven had 450 unduplicated clients, including 374 women and 76 men. They sheltered 25 individuals for a total of 55 nights. 

There are volunteer opportunities for those interested. Crisis Line Coverage volunteers take the line on their personal phone a minimum of four hours per month, and the volunteers can choose the day and times that works best for them. An advocate is on backup when a crisis comes up. The agency offers training. 

An office assistant volunteer cleans the office, does yard work and organizes donations. The Board of Directors attend one meeting per month and provide personal knowledge. The Board currently meets virtually.

Volunteers for the plant sale can help in 2-hour segments. Future fundraising events include assisting with set-up or take-down, and/or coverage of distributing drinks during Concerts on the Square, as well as an Oct. 15 scavenger hunt. Volunteers at the scavenger hunt will assist with location coverage and providing clues and tasks to the teams participating.
