Monticello students look at jobs during career day

MONTICELLO - Monticello High School and Middle School held a career day on Tuesday, Feb. 17. A variety of speakers addressed individual careers as well as employability skills and what to expect when applying to a two-year or four-year college. The freshmen learned about team building. A few of the middle school speakers spoke on hobbies. All middle school and high school staff were involved.

The main speaker of the morning was Craig Culver, owner of the Culver's Restaurant chain. Culver talked to the students about the ups and downs of owning a successful business and talked about the qualities that all students should possess in order to succeed.

Other speakers included: Jeff Messer, Margo Swan, Rachel Jorgenson and Dan Harrigan from Blackhawk Technical College; Kathy Kulka, Herzing College; Jennifer Kallembach, Swiss Colony; Ron Hartwig, Kuhn North America; Jeff Gard, University of Wisconsin-Platteville; Military Representatives; Sandy Blum, computer programmer; Ron Blumer, firefighter/EMT; Nick Webster, Department of Natural Resources; Nanette Hilliard, Total Look; Bruce Workman; Tiger Meyer; Dave Joaquin; Dr. Kelly Towne, chiropractor; Bob Love, computer gaming; Brittany Blum, vet tech; Renee Eichelkraut, photographer; Brad Grossen and Susan Steinhoff, Monroe Truck; Judy Rufener, nurse; Beth Lee Stern, jewelry designer; Jim Voegeli, musician; Paul Reider, archery; Angela Anderson, New Glarus Bakery; and Pat Ottaway, dog training.
