MONTICELLO - The Monticello Area Historical Society meeting is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 23 Zwingli UCC, 416 East Lake Ave. Guest speaker is Janet Willman.
Those who attend will hear an account of the ill-fated troop ship, USAT Dorchester, as well as a synopsis of the lives of the four chaplains who served on the ship and of one soldier who never came home.
The sinking of USAT Dorchester occurred Feb. 3, 1943 in the North Atlantic. The last survivor and witness of the sinking died in December 2012.
The meeting is open to the public.
